Research Desk

Research written to teach, not to sell

Our analysts publish so that learners can see how a market view is actually constructed — from raw data, through structure, to a scenario with a defined point of being wrong. Every note is educational. None of them is a recommendation.

How we work

Most retail market commentary is written to sound confident. Ours is written to be checkable. These five rules govern everything the desk publishes, and a note that breaks one of them does not go out.

01

Data before opinion

Every note starts from published data — central-bank statements, official statistical releases, exchange data, and inventory reports. If a claim cannot be sourced, it does not appear in the note.

02

Structure before narrative

We map the higher-timeframe structure first. Narrative is fitted to the chart afterwards, and clearly labelled as interpretation, because a compelling story attached to a bad level is still a bad level.

03

Scenarios, never forecasts

Our notes describe what would have to happen for each scenario to unfold, and what would invalidate it. We publish conditions, not predictions, because the second one is a claim nobody can honestly make.

04

Risk stated explicitly

Any illustrative example carries its invalidation level and its risk cost. An idea presented without a stated point of being wrong is not analysis — it is a guess with better formatting.

05

Reviewed and dated

Every published note is dated and archived unedited. We revisit prior notes openly, including those the market went on to contradict, because a research desk that never publishes its misses is not teaching anything.

What the desk publishes

Six recurring formats, each with a different purpose. Enrolled learners receive all of them; a sample of each is published openly on our insights page.

Daily Market Note

Every trading day, before the London open

A short written brief covering the overnight session, the levels that mattered and why, and the scheduled events that could change conditions during the day.

  • Overnight session recap with context
  • Higher-timeframe levels currently in play
  • Scheduled data releases and their historical volatility
  • One concept explained in plain language

Weekly Market Map

Published every Sunday evening

A top-down view across currencies, metals, and energy — what the week's structure looks like, where the correlations are tightening, and which releases carry the most weight.

  • Cross-asset structure summary
  • Correlation shifts worth noticing
  • Full week's economic calendar with impact ratings
  • A worked example applying the week's data to a chart

Event Deep-Dive

Ahead of major scheduled releases

Before an FOMC decision, a CPI print, or an OPEC+ meeting, we publish a study of what the release actually measures, how markets have historically responded, and how a prepared trader thinks through scenarios in advance.

  • What the release measures and how it is constructed
  • Historical reaction study across past releases
  • Scenario mapping — not prediction
  • Execution risks specific to the event

Concept Papers

Monthly

Longer written pieces on a single idea — expectancy arithmetic, contango, real yields, correlation instability — written for learners who want the reasoning, not a summary.

  • One idea examined properly
  • Worked calculations you can reproduce
  • Common misconceptions addressed directly
  • Further reading and source references

Chart Case Studies

Weekly

Historical charts annotated after the fact, showing how a documented method would have read the conditions — including the cases where the read was wrong and what the invalidation looked like.

  • Fully annotated historical charts
  • Entry, invalidation, and management logic
  • Losing examples given equal weight
  • Journal entry written as a model

Macro Briefings

Quarterly

A wider review of the policy environment — rate paths, inflation trajectories, and the structural themes shaping currency and commodity markets over months rather than days.

  • Central-bank policy stance summary
  • Inflation and growth data trends
  • Structural commodity supply-and-demand themes
  • How longer horizons change position sizing

Where our data comes from

We work only from primary and officially published sources. Where a third-party estimate is used, it is named in the note so you can weigh it yourself.

  • Reserve Bank of India, Federal Reserve, ECB, Bank of England, and Bank of Japan statements and minutes
  • Official statistical agencies for CPI, GDP, employment, and PMI data
  • Exchange-published contract specifications, volume, and open-interest data
  • EIA and API inventory reports for energy analysis
  • CFTC Commitment of Traders positioning reports
  • World Gold Council and industry bodies for structural metals demand

What our research is not

  • Not a signal service. We do not publish entry, stop, or target levels for you to copy. Levels appear only as worked examples with the reasoning attached.
  • Not investment advice. No note is tailored to your capital, obligations, or risk tolerance, and none should be treated as a recommendation to transact.
  • Not a performance claim. Historical case studies are chosen to illustrate a concept, including losing cases. They are not a record of results and imply nothing about the future.
  • Not a substitute for your own work. The purpose is to show you a method of analysis so that eventually you do not need ours.
